About This Project
This project's goal was to take a style concept from the ear of Futurism, Dada, and so on and create a repeatable pattern that could be applied to all sorts of products. I was intrigued by Filippo Marinetti's visual poetry in Futurism, so I decided to echo is work in mine. Futurism's main focus was on "the machine" and the advancement of science and technology, emphasizing speed, movement, war, and that sort of thing. Unfortunately for Futurism, it was hijacked pretty quickly by fascist Italy and much of the style was used in World War I and somewhat in World War II propaganda. As a result of its usage in WWI, it saw a huge decline, for what is probably obvious reasons. Still, it managed to influence many different art movements going forward, despite its short run.
With this particular pattern, I created the shape of an airplane using the literal word "airplane" in different font types. The contrails were made using the words "acceleration - movement - speed" in italics.
