About This Project
This "what if" project focuses on creating, in vector, a series of book covers for a trilogy of novels. This trilogy is one of my own making and is heavily inspired by the works of Andy Wier (The Martian and Hail Mary) and Arthur C. Clarke (2001: A Space Odyssey). While these three covers and titles are for currently non-existing books, I have come up with loose plots for each title and it has inspired me to try my hand at writing them out as actual novels one day.
Book 1: The Mars Initiative
This book focuses on a group of scientists and the crew of a ship called the USS Initiative where they are sent to Mars to explore and begin setting up the very first human colony. Naturally, something goes horribly wrong both on the trip to Mars and when they arrive. The book cover here is meant to showcase Mars in the background as the main destination while the ship takes center stage as it is a crucial part of the story.
Book 2: The Phobos Experiment
Part two of the series, this book focuses on the crew exploring, cataloguing, and experimenting on the planet's surface, with the USS Initiative in orbit. One day, they discover something coming from Phobos, one of Mars' two moons, which inspires a series of experiments that ultimately prove disastrous. As the moon, Phobos, is the central figure in this book, it takes center stage alongside the ship on the cover design.
Book 3: The Deimos Solution
This book is where the characters have to figure out how to resolve the issues that arose form the previous two books, with the final solution being found on the second of Mars' moons: Deimos. Just as was the case with the first two, since Deimos is the focal point of the story in this book, it takes center stage alongside the ship on the cover design here as well.
