About This Project
As part of my digital photography coursework during my MFA in Graphic Design, I was tasked with taking an environmental self-portrait. That is, I needed to shoot portraiture of myself in an inspired location and setting that told some kind of a story or reflected something unique beyond the typical static portrait shot. Given my love of fishing and the outdoors, it was natural that I would go with that as my inspired setting and situation. These portrait shots were all taken by me using my Nikon D80's remote and time settings as needed. I'll admit that setting this up was more of a challenge than I anticipated, and I often would prop up the fishing rod and lure to stand in my place so I could focus on the right spot. Then using the camera's timer, I would rush to my spot and pose long enough for the photo to be taken. It was a lot of work, but it was also a fun project too. The following images are my favorites from this collection. And yes, this is me. :)
